Yorkshire Grand Depart 2014
"In July 2014, the start of one of the biggest sporting events in the world, the Tour de France, will take place in Yorkshire. This event is know as the Yorkshire Grand Depart and it's a historical moment, not only for the region of Yorkshire, but for the whole of the UK.
For the first time ever, the Tour de France will be part of a huge cultural festival that will run for 100 days.
Also for the first time in the history of the Tour de France, the event will be run and delivered with the help of a team of volunteers, the "Tour Makers".
I decided to apply to be a Tour Maker because I wanted to be part of this historical moment for the Yorkshire region and contribute to create an unforgettable event.
After passing the selection process and going through several training sessions I was accepted as a Tour Maker, and I will be giving assistance during the first day of the race, starting in Leeds City Centre and finishing in Harrogate.
On the 24th May 2014 there was the official presentation of the event at the Leeds Arena (photo above), and on the 13th June the last training session was held at the Centenary Pavilion, in Elland Road.
It is expected that thousands of people will attend the race in July, and my priority will be to give all visitors a big welcome, if possible in their own language, so that they enjoy a fantastic day. Hope to see you all at the race!"
